Sydney--Part 1

We hit the ground running on New Years Day as we landed in Sydney.  On Jan 2 we headed out for a walk along Sydney's iconic southeast beaches and capped off the day with a trip to the Opera House.  Can you believe not a single person here was concerned with who was playing in the BCBS Series?  Remarkably, life seemed to go on without it.  :)

Pesky Clouds!

The hats were Mom's idea....

New Years in Cairns, Australia

For New Year's Eve Scott actually gave everyone a "Day Off" (ha!).  We had a quiet day: went to church, took a quick walk through the adjacent Botanical Gardens, had a gourmet lunch and even got a nap in ("Nap at home!").  We caught a peek of the fireworks...at 9pm.  We left the midnight festivities to the real party animals.

No ties here...and lots of flip flops!

McDonald's can be a cultural experience too...

Beets on a hamburger

Gravy Fries...How can we NOT have these in the U.S.?????!

The picture doesn't do it justice..it was like something from the movie South Pacific...moonlight on the waves with a gentle warm breeze.

Fireworks...sorry, photo fail

On January 1 it was off to Sydney:
