Our Cyclades Adventure Begins

Santorini - June 3, 3015
This is where I am sitting at this very minute
I know, I can't believe it either!  It is really too beautiful to describe.  I am writing from our cave house while the boys are out touring Akrotiri and the red beach via high and scary roads.

In case you are like me and are not terribly geographically literate, this is where we are:
In 1653 BC a volcanic eruption created a beautiful island with excellent cruise ship parking.  Now Santorini's population surges each morning and recedes each afternoon as what seems like millions of cruise boat passengers flood the narrow roads and pedestrian walkways and then return to their comfy cabins and unlimited buffets.

Yesterday started very early as the minibus driver arrived at 5:45AM to pick us up from our Athens apartment and deliver us to the airport.
These boys are airport professionals.  They can find free wifi in a split second!
Athens has an unusual airport.  Passengers are picked up at the gate in busses and then driven to the appropriate plane lined up on the tarmac.
 One of Greece's 6,000 islands.
Atlantis Books was our meeting place to be escorted to our cave house.  You can see that they also offer a Rent-A-Cat service for 5 euros.
This is the view from our cave house built into the side of the caldera (basically the inside walls of a volcano).
My boys love being constantly photographed in the picturesque beauty that surrounds us!!

After we got settled in, the boys went on a little adventure while I got some much needed beauty rest.
They walked down to the water on what they named Donkey Poop Avenue.

They then held what they called the Snail Olympics.  They found a bunch of snails in the water and turned them over.  The first snail to right itself was named the winner (but no olive wreaths were awarded).
We went back down to a recommended restaurant for dinner by the water.
We are still trying to figure out exactly how to use our selfie stick!

We are in the city of Oia which is famous for its sunsets.
Seafood variety platter:  prawns, octopus, squid and sea bream (but judging by the size of the teeth the boys think it was a piraña!).

This was our view when we returned to the cave house.
And this was the view at sunrise this morning.

Everywhere we have gone on this Greek adventure, we have been surrounded by Asian tourists.  They have been especially prevalent here in Santorini being photographed in wedding dresses.  The spot right outside our door is especially popular!

As the boys head out for their adventure this morning, there is a traffic jam of brides and grooms behind them!
Stay tuned for more adventures from Santorini or as Scott calls it, the "land where Euros disappear from your wallet!"
