Rest, Sweet Rest on Santorini

June 4, 2015
So we finally had a day with no agenda!  But, of course, we cannot miss an educational opportunity so the boys drove on treacherous mountain roads to the ancient town of Akrotiri.  A volcanic explosion in 1627 BC buried the town in ash and preserved it until excavation in 1967AD.  It is believed to be the inspiration for Plato's story of Atlantis.  The boys told me that the think this is a rock store... big rocks, medium sized rocks and small rocks for sale!
Next they explored the Red Beach.  It was hot and swarming with tourists.  They all agree that we have the best beaches in the world right down the road from Dothan!

The boys have skipped stones from coast to coast and around the world!
Meanwhile, I stayed at the cave house and caught up on my rest and relaxation (right now I am reading Cutting For Stone).  I also enjoyed an endless parade of wedding parties and Japanese tourists posing for photographs just outside our patio.  The winner of most dramatic was this Indian beauty below.
Scott thought he could do just as well with his dramatic poses!  Watch for him in upcoming issues of Vogue and Vanity Fair!

And now the obligatory photos from Santorini at sunset.

At last we called it a day and rested under our fancy mosquito net.
