We descended from our high alpine loft today, dropping about 3,000-4,000' in about 10-15 miles.
Everlie's Death Grip on the Road of Death
The rest of the descent to sea level was much more tame. We made a stop in Bolzano, in an attempt to see the "Iceman" (a 5,000 year old mummified caveman found frozen in an Italian glacier), but the line went around the block so we decided to skip it. We did find a good deal on gelato and a 99 cent store!
We elected to travel primarily by Interstate today, having had enough of twisty mountain roads. We went through some nice mountains, wine country and then emerged on the dry industrial plains of Northern Italy.
We turned in our rental car (no International incidents--hooray!) and rode the Vaparetto ("Water Bus") through Venice to our apartment.
Logan slept through the whole thing.
Our apartment was very close to St. Mark's plaza and we stopped by. The Boys enjoyed feeding the pigeons.
Feeding the "Flying Rats"
Our apartment landlord gave us a restaurant recommendation ("out of apartment, left, right, left, bridge, right, right--can't miss it"). Navigating here is a challenge but there's something interesting around every corner and down every little alley. We did eventually find our restaurant and had a wonderful dinner, although it was a bit fancier than we were expecting. No troubles though, everyone else were tourists just like us!
Davis stifles a yawn during Dinner--who drags their kids around like this?
We headed back to the apartment and got a good night's sleep. Finally, a place with some A/C! Tomorrow, more Venezia. Ciao!
